Gone are the days of estimated bills, now you pay for what you use as we are now in the era of per second billing, great achievement though its been long overdue considering the billions of US dollars being injected into the sector by past administrators till date.

For those of you in the dark on how to get the new prepaid meter, this post would help you on the steps involved in getting one.

How to Get Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) Prepaid Meter

Getting the IKEDC is not a big deal, they have their offices everywhere, but simply follow the process as seen below.

  1. Ikeja Electric would identify and notify the customers to be metered.
  2. Meter forms would be given to the identified customers by Ikeja Electric’s sales representatives (ESR)
  3. Installation of the new prepaid Meter takes place in the customers premises.
  4. After Installation, the customer has to visit the Ikeja Electric Business Unit for account reconciliation and vending. This is mandatory to complete the installation process.
  5. All customers are to ensure that they separate their load/lines before meter installation can be carried out.

Please note that the meter forms and installation services are FREE with no cost to the customers.

Do not make any payment to any Ikeja Electric employee or sub-contracting partner for meter forms and installation services.

    We ur customer on iju raod,114-116 iju rd ve been cut of frm light since Febuary this year 2016 due to bad transformer which has not been repaired nor replaced,some residential building do not ve d new pre paid meter while it has been installed within iju road,our service station is @ Iju,dis matter has been reported to them still no response till date.pls we kindly appeal for ur urgent reponse on dis issue,thanks

    1. you cannot personally walk into any PHCN’s office to buy the IKEDC prepaid meter, it is being distributed freely the government. So when it is the turn of your Zone, you will definitely get it. You just have to be patient

  2. hello, my name is tajudeen ogunbekun from ikotun behind oba ikotun palace,we use prepaid meter,for about six weeks now we have had light about twice.we don’t know what is going on? The chairman of our CDA said it was a fault.l don’t how long the fault will be corrected.Our city have being trned to a village for the past six weeks now.Please take action l don’t think they are saying the truth.

    1. Your community will have to come together, write and submit a petition to Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) detailing what has been happening for the past 6 weeks and do a follow up, i believe the problem will be solved. Am sorry for all the inconveniences. Regards.

Pls we need to know the problem with our light for almost 3months now, or may is u people that we offended, most of the houses around this area are prepaid customers. Even if there is a problem u people fail to carry us along, we’re just neglected as if we don’t exist. Pls we to the actual cause of our power outage for almost 3month and ur effort so far. Tnx.

    When will this zone be given the prepaid metre?

    1. The issuance of prepaid meters takes processes. It is issued Zonally, when it is time to issue prepaid meter to your Zone, you will definitely get yours.

  5. My landlady complained about one tenant in my house No. 33, Adeboye Str. Ilaje., Bariga that is leaving her house in Dec., 2016 and who is owing bills to Bariga Branch at the back of R-Jolad. They came to my our house to disconnect all the lights in the building. I went to Bariga Manager Mr. Benedict and informed him that I know my flat is owing but I will pay bit by bit N72,000 due to estimated bills they’re bringing for my flat. He refused that until I pay all my bills they’ll not connect my flat. Since Monday. 31st October, 2016, I don’t hv light in my flat. I am not yet living this house I think there should be dialogue on how I will pay this amount but he insisted that, it was order from above. There are a lot of houses on my str. owing more than me but nobody disconnected their light. Pls. kindly use yr good office to help me out. My marketer’s name is Eshua Patience who confirmed that they’ve coded my meter. That was the reason they’re giving my flat estimated bills.

  6. Good morning! going through this Porter now, I found out that registration for meter is free. Why then has your officials attached to mojoda/Araro community in Ikorodu Lagos been collecting as much as 8000 Naira from people for registration and yet did not register anyone, rather, come every end of the month without bill and extort money from people and when they refuse to pay disconnect light? This is the highest form of corruption I ve ever witnessed despite the war against corruption in this administration. Please and please let the change begin with Ikdc. Good day , pls I reside at igi-olubgin street, owotutu, bariga and for about two weeks now we’ve not had light and yet at the end of the month we would still be expected to pay the light bill or have our light disconnected, I plead with your ikedc to do something about it as no reasonable reason has been given for not having light, pls do something about it and let’s have value for what we pay for.

  9. pre paid meter was recent my distributed in my area (Governor rd, Ikotun Lagos). My problem is I was given 3phsae meter for my work on 3phsae electric motors and they added my 2 bedroom flat to it so that my 2 bedroom flat (domestic)is been charge on commercial pls I want it separated what can I do or what to take for commercial per unit pls vat is about #30.00 while domestic per unit pls vat is about #22.00 pls assist

  11. Please I want to find out when prepaid meter will be distributed to our area since we are under mushin local government. From what I know, quite a lot of customers /houses have received the prepaid meter in Mushin. I mean itire region up to Odo-Eran (the abattoir).
    When available, what is the procedure in obtaining one.
    Can it be transferable from one location to another in the event of relocation?

    Also, I would like to be cleared if customers are meant to pay for these prepaid meters as it is been alledged.

  12. FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS, WE DONT SEE LIGHT AT AGBOYI ROAD ALAPERE

    PLEASE WE SEE OTHERS AREAS WITH LIGHT, WHY ONLY AGBOYI ROAD DONT HAVE LIGHT.

    PRESENTLY THE LIGHT WILL COME BY 5AM AND GOES OFF BY 6AM. ONLY ONE HOUR IN A DAY.

    THIS IS BAD.

  13. I stay in room and parlour self contain at 8,Adeniran Street Off Oriola Bus Stop ,Alapere Ketu. Your people bring ridiculous estimated bill especially the current bill which is N9000.00. For the past 2 weeks now there is no power supply and you expect people to pay their bills.
