Not many are aware of this Federal University. It was established on the 16th of February, 2011 under the administration of former president Ebele Goodluck Jonathan. This post contains the list of courses offered in Federal University, Lokoja and their general admission requirements.

For any candidate to be eligible for admission into Federal University, Lokoja, candidates must have a minimum of five ‘O’ Level credit passes at a maximum of two sittings, in relevant subjects related to the course of study which must include: English Language, Mathematics. Federal University, Lokoja cut off mark is 180 out of 400.

 Admission into the Federal University, Lokoja is strictly through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). In addition, candidates must satisfy the general University requirement as well as the specific faculty and departmental programmes requirements.

Economics Five SSCE passes at credit level to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two of Arts or Social Science subjects. Economics, Mathematics and any of Government, History, Geography and Financial Accounting.
English and Literary Studies Five SSCE passes at credit level to include English Language and Literature in English and any other three of either Arts or Social Science Subjects Literature in English, any other two Arts or Social Science subjects.
Geography Five SSCE passes at credit level in English Language, Mathematics, Geography, and any other two subjects from Arts and Social Sciences (Economics, Government and History) or Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Agricultural Science). Geography and any two subjects both from Arts and Social Sciences (Economics, Government and History) or both from Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics).
History and International Studies Five SSCE passes at credit level to include History or Government, English Language and other three from Arts or Social Sciences. History/Government and any other two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.
Political Science Five SSCE passes at credit level to include  English Language, Government or History plus two social science subject and any other subject. Candidate must have at least a pass in Mathematics. History/Government plus one social science subject and any  Arts or Social Science subject.

Computer Science Five SSCE passes at credit level to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two science subjects. Mathematics, Physics and any one of Chemistry, Agricultural Science/Biology.
Geology Five SSCE passes at credit level in Mathematics, English Language, Physics,  Chemistry and any other relevant science subject. Any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology.
Mathematical Sciences Five SSCE passes at credit level in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science. Mathematics, Physics and any of Chemistry/Biology/Agricultural Science.
Physics Five SSCE passes at credit level in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one of Biology, Geography or Agricultural Science. Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.

BREAKDOWN OF DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1.        Economics Five credit passes in not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two relevant Arts and Social Sciences subjects such as Principles of Account, Geography and Government/History Two A’ Level passes in Economics and any one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Accounting, Business Management, History and Government. Applicants with National Diploma (ND) & Higher National Diploma (HND) must have minimum of upper credit from accredited institutions in the following courses:

  • Dip. in Accounting
  • Dip. in Business Admin.
  • Dip. in Banking and Fin.
  • Dip. in Marketing
NCE: At least merit pass in two NCE teaching subject including Economics.

Graduates of other disciplines must have at least a third class.

2.        English and Literary Studies Five credit passes in not more than two sittings in English Language and Literature in English and any other three of either Arts or Social Science subjects. Two A’ Level passes to include Literature in English and one other Arts or Social Science subject.
  • NCE: At least merit pass in two NCE teaching subjects including Literature in English (NOT GENERAL ENGLISH) provided they meet the basic O’ Level requirements.
Graduates of other disciplines must have at least a Third Class
3. Geography Five credit passes in not more than two sittings in Geography, English Language and Mathematics and two other subjects which must both be from Arts and Social Sciences (History, Government, Economics), or Natural Sciences (Biology/Agric. Science, Chemistry, Physics) but not from both groups. Two A’ Level passes in Geography and any one of History/Government, Economics or Biology/Agric. Science, Chemistry, Physics, Geology and Mathematics

 

  • NCE: Credit in Geography
  • ND (Upper credit) in Cartography, Land Surveying and Geographic Information System/Geo-informatics
 4. History and International Studies Five SSCE passes at credit level in not more than two sittings to include History or Government, English Language and any other three from Arts or Social Sciences. At least Two A’ Level passes in History/ Government and any other Arts or Social Science.

 

  • A holder of NCE in relevant course(s) with a minimum of Credit passes in the three major courses.
  • A holder of ND in relevant course(s) with a minimum of upper credit from any recognized institution.
 5. Political Science Five SSCE passes at credit level in not more than two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Government or History plus two social science subjects and any other subject. At least Two A’ Level passes to include Government/History and one other Arts or Social Science subjects.
  • ND (Upper credit) HND (lower credit) in Public Administration and Local Govt. Studies or other cognate departments recognized by FUL.
  • NCE: A minimum of credit
Graduates of Arts, Social Sciences, Law or Education courses must have a minimum of Third Class
 6. Biological Sciences Five SSCE passes at credit level in not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At least Two A’ Level passes to include Biology/Botany/ Zoology and Chemistry. Mathematics or Physics.
  • ND: upper credit in related fields
  • NCE: Credit in Biology or Agric. Science or Laboratory Technology and any related subject combination
 7. Chemistry Five SSCE passes at credit level in not more than two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Two A’ Level passes in Chemistry and any other of Mathematics, Physics or Biology.
  • ND (Upper credit) HND (lower credit) in Polymer Chemistry, Colour Chemistry, Science Laboratory Technology and Analytical Chemistry.
  • NCE: Overall merit with credit passes in Chemistry and either Biology, Physics or Mathematics.
 8. Computer Science Five SSCE passes at credit level in not more than two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two science subjects chosen from Biology/Agric. Science, Chemistry and Computer Studies. IJMB: At least Two A’ Level passes in Mathematics and any of Physics, Chemistry or Biology/Zoology/ Botany.

GCE A’ Level: At least Two A’ Level passes to include Computer Science/Info. Tech. and any one of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology

  • ND/HND: Minimum of upper credit in Computer Science from a recognized University.
  • NCE: Credit in Computer Science/Mathematics/ Computer Studies and any other relevant subject combinations from a recognized College of Education.

  • ND (Upper credit) HND (lower credit) in Geology, Mining Engineering, Mineral Resources and Geophysics.
 10. Mathematical Sciences Five SSCE passes at credit level in not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any two of Chemistry, Further Maths, Geography or Biology/Agricultural Science. Two A’ Level passes to include Mathematics and any one of Physics, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Economics or Statistics
  • ND (Upper credit) passes in Statistics or Computer Science from a recognized institution
  • NCE: Credit pass in Mathematics and any other relevant subject combination
 11. Physics Five SSCE passes at credit level in not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one of the following subjects: Biology, Geography, Further Mathematics and Agricultural Science. Two A’ Level passes to include Physics and any one of Mathematics or Chemistry
  • ND (Upper credit) passes or its equivalent in Science Laboratory Technology, Electronics and Electrical Engineering
