The stylish Anambra born rapper Azubuike chibuzor Nelson also known by his stage name as Phyno is no doubt a talented artiste. The rapper who hails from Anambra was born on the 9th of October 1986, in Enugu state.

Phyno is known for rapping in his native Igbo language with a fuse of Nigerian pidgin and English. The rapper, who started out as a producer, has risen to become one of the biggest musical acts in Nigeria today.


He is the fourth child out of five children, although he wished to be a pilot during his secondary school days, but that was not going to be. He had his tertiary education at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, where he studied Public Administration.

His stage name Phyno is short form for Phenomenal, a nickname given to him by one of his high school friends named Emeka.

He started professional music during his second year at IMT. He relocated to Lagos in 2010 and following the advice of Illbliss, he began to delve into rapping and recording. Phyno has produced songs for artists such as Flavour, Timaya, Ruggedman, 2shotz, Brackett, J martins and Mr Raw (Nigga Raw).

He began to record songs for his debut album “No Guts No Glory” in 2012, but which was later released in 2014. The Album contained songs like the albums lead single ‘Ghost Mode’ featuring Yoruba rap sensation Olamide, which topped numerous charts across the country. Other tracks in the album includes, ‘Man of the year’, ‘Alobam’, ‘O Set’ and ‘Parcel’. The album had collaborations from the likes of Omawumi, Olamide, Stormrex, Timaya, P-square, Flavour, M.I, Mr Raw, Ice Prince and Runtown.

His second album, a collaborative album with friend and rapper Olamide titled ‘2 Kings’, was released on the 1st of April 2015. In April 2016, the duo collaborated on a ‘Ghetto gospel’ themed song titled ‘Fada fada’ with positive reception from fans and the media.

Phyno has won numerous awards and recognitions. The hit single ‘Ghost Mode’ won best collabo at both the 2012 The Headies Awards and 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. In 2013, ‘Man of the Year’ won the Headies Award for best rap single. ‘Parcel’ won the Headies Award for the best rap single in 2014. He also won the City People Entertainment Award for the Best Rap Act of the Year 2014.


Phyno has over 30 nominations at several award ceremonies including the Channel O Music Awards, African Music Magazine Awards, and the Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA). His style of music keeps paving way for him which therefore gears him up for more awards in future.


2014 was a year of scandals for Phyno, as it was rumored that he impregnated a young lady named Rita Edmond, he however was quick to debunk the claim in an interview with Punch Newspaper. In the same year a picture circulated online of what looked like him kissing the ‘limpopo’ crooner Kcee at a popular night club. This made his fans to wonder if he was gay. He denied being gay and blamed it all on the angle of the camera.

In june 2016, Phyno finally opened up about his girlfriend, though did not to hide the identity of his girlfriend, he reveals that his girlfriend is a mixture of two sexy Nigerian artistes Rita Dominic and Genevieve Nnaju put together.. this keeps us wondering what he means by that because that sounds deep Lol! I guess this news concretely debunks the rumour of him and Kcee being gay lovers. But don’t get it twisted, the Fada Fada hit maker isn’t hitting the aisle anytime soon according to him. Phyno’s net worth keeps skyrocketing as time flies by, The Anambra born indigenous rapper  In August 2014, according to Thisday news reported that he had been endorsed as a brand Ambassador of Guinness Nigeria’s Made Of Black and this made him perform at the launch of the campaign and also featured in the television commercials and online adverts.

In 2015 he signed an endorsement deal with football betting company Nairabet. Same year he bagged an endorsement deal with Airtel said to be worth 50 million naira. He is estimated to be worth $2 million (over 800 Million Naira).

Talking about Phyno’s house and cars, In 2014 Phyno bought himself a brand new Bentley GT Coupe worth 30 Million Naira. Also, in 2015 the rapper acquired a Multi-Million Naira Duplex at Chevy View Estate, Chevron Drive, Lekki said to be worth over 170 Million naira and another luxurious house in his hometown Enugu which is worth 70 Million naira.
